Fall Wardrobe Staples

Fall Wardrobe Staples

Fall is coming and I have to say I am quite excited! I have had so much fun putting together my fall wardrobe. It is a mix of unpacking old gems that never go out of style and finding the new trending items for this season. Here I’ve compiled a list of all the trends and essentials you will need in your closet this fall.

  1. Neutral Sweaters

For someone who is always cold (even in 75° weather) there is no doubt sweater weather is my favorite time of year. Neutral sweaters are a must for a fall wardrobe as they are so easily styled for any season. There are so many looks that can be made with a single piece that you will definitely get the most bang for your buck! Not to mention, with the various styles of sweaters available, you can find one that works best for you and your personality.

  1. Light jacket

We all know fall weather is unpredictable so a lightweight jacket is a must for the changing temps and making your outfit work in your favor. I try to find one that fits a bit looser to allow for layering yet still has a more fitted look (I know it sounds hard, they are out there though).

  1. Layering pieces, High Necklines, and Cutouts

Think about all those cute tops that sit in your closet during the colder seasons. Now, think if you could use those year-round? Having some great basic items that can be easily built upon is an essential for those lonely cardigans and jackets in your wardrobe. Not to mention that high neck tops and cutouts are very on trend right now and are very easy layering pieces.

  1. Cardigans

You always need some great cardigans. They are great for cozying up and for extra warmth on a breezy day. Having a few different styles and some different colors is all you need and they last for years.

  1. Vests

Now, these almost didn’t make the list just because they can belong to the layering category, but I do believe that when the weather doesn’t call for a full-on jacket or cardi but you still need that little extra something, vests can come in pretty handy just for that.

  1. Statement Pants and Skirts

Now I know this isn’t for everyone, but sometimes having a statement pant can really make a difference. You don’t need to go all out either, you can start with something as easy as pinstripes, or a solid jogger style work pant. They are an easy way to turn around an ordinary outfit so why not try it out?

  1. Mules and Sliders

The summer was a huge hit with open-toe slider and loafers. This fall is carrying on the trend with tons of close-toe slider and loafer versions. They are very comfortable, very work friendly, and still allow for a more casual put-together vibe.

  1. Boots and Booties

Year after year we see these. You can pair some ankle boots with that perfect jean roll and maybe even some boot cuff socks to add a little detail or go for the full-on riding boot for a more preppy or relaxed look. You get it! They are perfect for when the weather seems a little too risky to wear your Birkenstocks with socks (we all do it, it’s ok to admit). They are a classic and a must-have for that shoe rack!

  1. Accessories: Scarves, hats, gold jewelry

Hats and scarves are the easiest accessories to add to a look to instantly make it more put together. Scarves are by far my favorite as they can easily tie together a look and be taken off and used as a blanket for warmth (I run cold ok). Gold jewelry is also a great accessory. We all lose that summer tan glow eventually, and gold jewelry adds a bit of that warmth back to your skin tone and detail to the outfit.

  1. Bags

A staple bag is always a good investment any time of year. For fall and winter, a black bag will get you a long way, but you can also have fun by pulling in the fall colors like olive green, maroon, or mustard as an accent.

I hope this guide gives you some fall inspiration! I’m hoping to start my first series of “Fall Fridays” where every Friday I will post a season inspired post to help you get into the fall mood! Let me know in the comments below what your favorite staple from this post was, or what you want to see for Fall Fridays.
